Straight Talk from Deepak

Last weekend I was fortunate to attend Sages and Scientists Symposium: The Merging of a New Future which was hosted by Deepak Chopra. The entire weekend was incredibly thought-provoking and inspiring, I’m still digesting it all! My personal highlight was the opportunity to have a one-on-one chat with Deepak who I deeply admire as his teachings have personally impacted my life in transformational ways.

As I approached his office, I had butterflies in my stomach! But as soon as I walked in, I immediately felt at ease as his presence is incredibly calming and welcoming. I had a series of questions I had written down because I was interviewing him for the Huffington Post; however, we just started chatting and got into a discussion about how to teach people to take life less seriously.

Earlier in the day, Deepak shared his personal mantra “easy come, easy go” and emphasized the importance of living without expectation as the physical world is merely an illusion anyway, a projection of our consciousness. Okay. I really get that and I agree that the only thing that really matters in life is love. AND I also get that a lot of us have things to do, situations that are stressful, things we really want, people we care about, goals we are striving for and so on. So I asked him, “How do I inspire people to adopt an easy come, easy go mantra when there are so many things they are dealing with and that they want to accomplish in life?”

Deepak just smiled and then laughed a bit. As he sipped his Starbucks coffee he replied, “There will always be things to do and the more attached we are to those things, the more things there will be to do. So you can want and do all those things and get them or not get them but then ask yourself, what is the cost for all the doing and wanting? To me, there is much more payoff to easy come, easy go.”

Well said Deepak. Simple, yet a mantra that very few of us live by. So I guess it will come as no surprise to you that my Uplifting advice today is to take it easy.

Fondly,
Christine

“The Law of Detachment – This law says that in order to acquire anything in the physical universe, you have to relinquish your attachment to it. This doesn’t mean you give up the intention to create your desire. You give up your attachment to the result. This is a very powerful thing to do.”
Deepak Chopra
