Yesterday I was honored to be a speaker at the energizing and inspiring Texas Conference for Women. The entire event was alive – bustling with smart, savvy, successful and passionate women. I left invigorated by the magic that happens when large groups of women gather with the intention of bettering themselves and supporting each other (let’s all start doing it more often!).

During the luncheon keynote, Tory Johnson who is the trailblazing founder of Women for Hire, came on stage and held up a $100 bill asking the audience who wanted it. There must have been over 10,000 women in the room so thousands of hands went up accompanied by a lot of squealing and clapping. Tory continued to wave Ben Franklin around while asking, “Who wants it?” The hands shot up with more enthusiasm. “Me, I do, I want it!!!” echoed throughout the auditorium. But Tory wasn’t giving it to anyone despite all the willing volunteers. Finally one woman confidently walked on stage and took the $100 right out of Tory’s hand. She didn’t wait until Tory called on her, she recognized the opportunity to go after something she wanted..and got it.

How often do you see or know of something you want, you say you want it, you feel like you are committed to having it; however, you do not fully commit to going after it? What is stopping you? Don’t wait for a hand-out, an invitation or permission! Most of all, don’t wait until you feel no fear. Feel the fear and do it anyway, that’s courage. If there is something you are passionate about, go out and grab it. What’s the worst that can happen? If you don’t get it, nothing will change from the way things currently are except for the fact that you’ll never have to regret not trying.
