Why patience is more than a virtue, it’s a strategy

Did you know that a bamboo seed takes up to seven years to sprout, but once it does, it can grow thirteen feet in only one week?

This interesting fact is amazing and comforting as we remember that the seeds we plant do take time to sprout.

I have been very aware of the value of patience as both a virtue as a strategy this month. Patience is a virtue because it is a quality that moves us into acceptance and peace. It is a strategy because when we let go of our attachment to the delivery date of results, we open up a tremendous space for the Universe to bring opportunities to us in Divine Timing. I share about some of my experiences with patience on today’s vlog.

One of the examples I share in the vlog is a recent partnership with an incredible brand that has been so rewarding for me to work on. It happened because a woman at the company read my first book Twenty Something, Twenty Everything eight years ago and has followed my work ever since. Nearly a decade later, an opportunity arose and she thought of me.

When that book came out, I had high expectations. I wanted an instant platform and business to generate income and “be known.” Instead, I had to take a full time job and moonlight as a coach. It took a few years to get my business to the point where I could quit other work.

I share this with you because so many of the opportunities that come into my life today are from seeds I planted years ago. Books or articles I wrote. Interviews I did that I thought no one heard. People I met and have cultivated relationships with.

Please do not underestimate the power of the seeds you are planting. Just like the little bamboo seed takes time to reach the surface, your seeds may require a gestation period. So plant them with love. Plant them with intention. But do not plant them with any attachment to instant gratification.

Nurture your relationships. Express yourself creativity. Share your thoughts and ideas. You never know how a seed you plant today will blossom in the future @christinhassler (Tweet this!)

Patience is especially important when it comes to your own personal growth work. A common concern I hear from people is, “I am doing all this work on myself, and I feel different inside. But things in my life are not changing. Where is the money, job, health, or relationship?”

If you feel that your external world is not reflective of the “new you,” please do not get discouraged by interpreting it as feedback that you aren’t doing enough.

In Expectation Hangover one of the transformational truths I share is that things happen in “due-time.” The truth is that physical reality is very dense, unlike our emotional, mental, or spiritual world, where change is more fluid and immediate. Just as the entelechy of the bamboo seed is to grow 13 feet in a year after it sprouts, the entelechy of your soul knows what is perfect timing for you.

We must give up our desire for instant gratification and our obsession with results, and measure progress by the differences felt inside rather than by what is different on the outside.

It is normal to feel like big dreams are taking forever to come true, to wonder if you are doing something wrong, and to think perhaps you should settle for less. But I assure you that no matter how long it takes, once it happens, you will wonder how you ever doubted it and be glad you never settled.

Love,

Christine
