Making Changes

This week one of my cherished clients moved to a new city to begin a new chapter of her life. As she sat in her last face-to-face session before she left, tears rolled down her face and she asked, “Does the fact that I’m so sad right now mean I am making the wrong choice?” I was flooded with compassion, aware of how scary change can be and gently reminded her that feeling sad, scared and anxious about taking a leap of faith is totally normal. Just because change brings up uncomfortable feelings does not necessarily mean we should not make the change.

Many of us resist or avoid making changes because we would rather stay comfortable and safe. When we are considering a change, we often play the “what if” game to the extent that our peace of mind is so disturbed by fear that we talk ourselves out of following through.

Change is not for the faint of heart. Very few things bring us to our knees and force us to grow as much as change. I know the changes in my life, both elected and non-elected, have catapulted my growth more than anything else.

Today I encourage you to UPdate your relationship with change from one of fear to courage. Transition is the doorway for transformation. Are you willing to walk through into the next room of your life or would you rather stay in the comfortable hallway looking at the same old pictures on the wall? If you don’t create change, change will create you. So go ahead, take a leap, and make some changes!

Fondly,

The key to change… is to let go of fear.”

“Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts.”
– Arnold Bennett

“Any time you sincerely want to make a change, the first thing you must do is to raise your standards. When people ask me what really changed my life eight years ago, I tell them that absolutely the most important thing was changing what I demanded of myself. I wrote down all the things I would no longer accept in my life, all the things I would no longer tolerate, and all the things that I aspired to becoming.”

– Tony Robbins
